Thai food has always held a special place in our hearts, and Som Boon Thai just made us fall in love all over again. In between the Houston Heights and Rice Military, this family-owned spot brings authentic Thai flavors to a relaxed, welcoming setting.

The restaurant is casual and clean, which makes it perfect for laidback dinners, solo lunches, or spontaneous takeout runs when you're craving something comforting but full of flavor. It’s one of those places that feels like a true neighborhood gem—fast, delicious food made with care.

We started our meal with the Tom Yum Kung, and it blew us away. The broth had just the right balance of tangy, spicy, and savory– all the flavors we love in Thai soups.

Then came the Tiger Cry—thinly sliced, grilled beef served with an umami dipping sauce that had a kick. The meat was tender, and that subtle smokiness is unbeatable.

We also tried a few other classics, and not a single dish disappointed. Every bite felt like a warm reminder of why Thai food is so universally loved—comforting and full of flavor. The menu covers all the staples, from rich curries to pad Thai and papaya salad, and everything is made with quality ingredients.

Som Boon Thai has officially earned a spot in our regular rotation. It’s authentic, locally owned, and not too busy (yet). If you're looking to expand your list of go-to Thai spots in Houston, this one should be next on your list!
